Olivet Baptist Church
Pastor Alex O. Stone was licensed in 1994 and ordained in 1996 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in East Chicago, Ind. where he met and married his wife, Irene Walker-Stone. Before coming to Olivet, he served under Pastor P.M. Smith, as a teacher for International Sunday School and led the Lifestyle Stewardship campaign at Huber Memorial Church.
He also served as an Associate Minister at Calvary Baptist Church in Haverhill, Massachusetts for four years prior to returning to Baltimore in 2000. Upon his return, he spent seven years as Associate Minister at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, while serving as the State Director for the Pennsylvania Chapter of the March of Dimes prior to founding First Fruits, LLC in 2003, a consulting business focused on helping churches to raise funds to renovate, expand or acquire a new edifice. Later he served as a Vice President of Annual Giving for American Cancer Society (South Atlantic Division). Currently, he serves as the Vice President for Corporate & Constituent Relations for Arthritis Foundation.
In May 2004, Rev. Stone received his Masters of Divinity (MDiv.) degree from Andover Newton Theology School, the oldest graduate school of theology in the U.S. He also received the 2004 Kiononia Preaching Award. This was particularly significant since he was the only African-American male in the graduating class. In addition, he has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Purdue University, plus two undergraduate degrees from Indiana University (Ind.) in Political Science and History. He is a 1980 graduate of Mt. St. Joseph high school in Baltimore.
He has two stepsons and eight grandchildren. Yet his greatest accomplishment is realizing a need for Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. As a result, he desires to serve God and His people.
